The beginning of artificial sound synthesis 1920
We may condsider that the original synthesizer was invented by, Leon Theremin in 1920, patented in 1928. This was a device constructed with vacuum tube electronic parts. It was a simple Voltage controlled oscillator, with a voltage controled amplifier. The sound was controlled by two antenna, the loop antenna on the left controls the volume while the upright antenna controls the pitch. This device was used over the years in many Hollywood movies, to produce that spooky sound. Theremin instruments are still being made and sold today at: Moog Theremin at Sweetwater
